Anthurium is a genus of herbs that often grow as epiphytes, meaning they live on other plants. Some species are terrestrial, or grow on the ground. The leaves tend to cluster together and have different shapes. The inflorescence, or the flower-bearing part of the plant, has small flowers that are perfect, meaning they have both male and female parts. The flowers grow in tight spirals on the spadix, which is a stalk that can be shaped like a spike, a globe, or a club. Below the spadix is the spathe, which is a kind of leaf-like structure. The spathe can also have different shapes, but it is often lance-shaped. It can lie flat or curve around the spadix. Sometimes it forms a hood over the spadix. The fruits are juicy berries that can have different colors. They usually have two seeds inside.
